Welcome Rajesh and Punita

Husband and wife team Rajesh and Punita Borkhataria have taken on Shuttercraft in the Chelmsford region, becoming our 39th partner business in the Shuttercraft franchise network.

Punita said: “As a business, Shuttercraft ticked all the boxes for us as a family, matching our vision and values completely. We see our business having all the ingredients for success with the training provided and the quality shutters we can now offer.”

“For us to be successful and grow, we must ensure we match customers’ expectations perfectly and we’re confident we can do that.”

“The training provided has been great, very informative. We can’t wait to get started and help homeowners in Chelmsford get efficient quality window treatments.”

A background in business

Rajesh and Punita come from a business background, owning and running a family business of Men’s clothing retail in their hometown of Tanzania. After 14 years, the pair decided to move back to the UK at the end of 2020 with their two children.

Punita’s background as a graduate in International Business and Finance, and working for Barclays Bank as a Corporate Assistant and Small Business Manager, led her to be the Operations and Marketing Manager for the Tanzanian family business at Brand House Ltd. After returning to the UK she has even started up her own Cake business ‘Cakes By Punita’ which she runs as a small part-time venture alongside the Shuttercraft franchise.

Rajesh graduated as a Mechanical Engineer and has worked for three different companies as a Mechanical Services Design Engineer. He too joined the family business in Tanzania, but as Managing Director, and quickly expanded the business from 3 branches to 8 as well as launching a hospitality supply business within the group.

“We are new to the UK market after being away for so long. Things have changed since we were last here in 2007. After moving, we had Covid uncertainty to deal with also.”

“After doing a great deal of research, we quickly realised we need to consider a structured approach to business, as our ideas will take a long time to mature in a very competitive environment. This is when we realised Franchising could be perfect solution for us. With a franchise, we will have a defined way of working, a product that is tried and tested in the market, and we can adopt a business model that is ready.”

“We got lots of our information from the British Franchising Association website. This is where we read about Shuttercraft.”

The Shuttercraft Journey

After over a month of training from our multi-award-winning, in-house trainer Mark Duwell of S:CRAFT, and support from their local Business Development Manager, the pair launched their territory in June.

Tony Reid, Head of Marketing for Shuttercraft, says: “We’re really excited to be able to offer our services in the Chelmsford area now – thanks to Rajesh and Punita joining the Shuttercraft family.

“Summer is on everyone’s minds, but many are also conscious of the rising costs of electricity and considering sustainable long-term choices in their home design.

“When closed, shutters reduce heat loss significantly – and they’re also handy for the summer months if you want to keep cool and control the light coming in.

“Our franchise owners are the heart of our business. We’re delighted to be welcoming Rajesh and Punita to our network of partners, and we’re proud to be providing such a wide range of support services to help drive their operations forward.”
